Shenice is not your typical bride. When her car broke down on the way to the wedding venue, she resorted to hitchhiking when nothing else panned out. 28-year-old Shenice was happily seated in a rented vintage Beauford car when it suddenly came to a halt on the side of a country road. Recalling the incident, she had to borrow her chauffeur’s phone to call taxi companies so she could get to the ceremony location. But that day, the bride was out of luck as none of the companies would send a car to her location. “I don’t think they believed it was my wedding day,” she shared in the interview.
“It was the most unimaginable thing that could have happened,” said the dance teacher recalling the event. “We had got ready at the venue in Upton-on-Severn in the morning, and had then got in the lovely, vintage Ford car to drive to the church in Gloucester. Because we were in a classic, vintage car, we decided to take the back roads rather than going down the motorway.”
She continued, “But not long after we set off, we heard this noise coming from the car, and it just broke down. It just stopped going. I couldn’t believe it. My sister had actually joked when we got in, ‘What if it breaks down?’ We all just looked at each other when it happened. The driver tried and tried to get it going, but nothing was happening.”
The next solution was to wait for the car that was dropping off Beirne’s bridesmaids but a round trip would have taken almost an hour for the bride, her mother, and her sister to get there. At that point, hitchhiking seemed like their best option to get to the church which was just 25 minutes away.
After waving at passing cars on the backroads of Gloucester for about 10-15 minutes, a kind couple ultimately stopped to see if the trio needed any help. Matt and Michelle Moore, 44, were angels in disguise for Beirne as they dropped the three women at St. Barnabas Church. On arrival, the grateful passengers made it a point to get a picture with the Moores who saved their day.
“I’m just glad that I managed to stay calm and not get stressed out, otherwise that might have ruined the rest of my day,” said the young woman of the incident that took place on July 8 this year. A few hours later, Bernie happily tied the knot with her husband and the rental car, that had broken down, was fixed just in time to transport the newly married pair to their reception in the small town of Upton upon Severn, situated in the Malvern Hills District of Worcestershire, England. Over a month later, on August 11, Berine detailed the incident on a Facebook post, thanking Matt and Michelle for being her saviour.
“They were my guardian angels,” she expressed. In no time, the post went viral as people began applauding the couple for stepping up and helping strangers. Two days after sharing the post, Beirne told her friends and followers that she had managed to track down the couple on social media. “It was a pleasure to help you on your big day,” wrote Michelle responding the Beirne’s update.
