DOTHAN, Ala. – The Wiregrass United Way funds nearly 40 partnering agencies that serve the community in different ways.
One of the agencies relies on those funds to help individuals and families facing issues across the Wiregrass.
Serving individuals across the life span in five wiregrass counties, SpectraCare Health Systems, a nonprofit community health center knows what it means to make an impact.
SpectraCare is the safety net for individuals with substance abuse mental health issues and those with developmental issues. Our community would look a lot different if spectra care was not here to serve those in need,” says SpectraCare chief operating officer Susie Kingry.
SpectraCare offers day treatment and outpatient and behavioral services.
Its residential facility the haven offers counseling and therapy to those struggling with alcohol and drug usage.
“Approximately 500 individuals go through the haven a year for substance abuse treatment,” says Kingry.
But the services they provide the community would not be possible without the financial help.
“SpectraCare is so grateful for the help from the Wiregrass United Way. For every dollar, we receive from the united way we’re able to get matching funds from the state and the federal government. We couldn’t do what we do every day with that support,” says Kingry.
Even those that assist others need help themselves.
SpectraCare is hopeful that community members and businesses will continue to support the Wiregrass United Way so they can keep the cycle going.
“Think of all of those agencies that receive those funds. The community benefits from this and our communities would look so much different without those agencies,” says Kingry.
The Wiregrass United Way is kicking off its pacesetter campaign Friday with a drive-thru food drive benefitting the Wiregrass Area Food Bank.
