DOTHAN, Ala. – WWE Hall Of Famer ‘Bullet’ Bob Armstrong has passed away at the age of 80. Armstong, whose real name is Joseph James, wrestled for decades throughout the southeast.
His son, Brian James, confirmed the news on twitter.
The WWE is also paying their respects.
“WWE is saddened to learn that “Bullet” Bob Armstrong, a WWE Hall of Famer and patriarch of the legendary Armstrong wrestling family, has passed away at age 80.”
Bob Armstrong got his start as a wrestler in 1960, seeing his biggest success across the south in Alabama, Florida and Georgia. He held many championships in organizations like Mid-South, Georgia Championship Wrestling, NWA Mid-America, Southeastern Championship Wrestling and Continental Championship Wrestling.
Armstrong also made appearances in Smoky Mountain Wrestling, WCW, and TNA. Hewas inducted into the 2011 class of the WWE Hall of Fame.
All of Armstrong’s sons competed in professional wrestling as well.
Armstrong was a staple on the Dothan wrestling scene. He had a long-time friendship with former wrestling host and tv personality Charlie Platt. The two had a heated feud after Platt called Armstrong out for several acts he committed. In on instance, Armstrong slapped his son as part of the story-line at the time.
