A young pup is ready to put his miserable past behind him because he wants nothing more than to shower the people around him with love. Before he was rescued, the dog named Beaker was spotted by a man, who returned back home to find the pup chained behind his garage. The man had only been away from his house for a few hours, during which time somebody dumped Beaker in his backyard and left him in chains. Immediately, the man contacted the Rebel Dogs Detroit and told them what happened.
When rescuers arrived, they found the abandoned dog with the metal chain nearly embedded in his skin.
“We received a call from a man frantically trying to get help. It left his home for a few hours and returned to a young dog with an embedded chain mysteriously tied up in his backyard,” Rebel Dogs Detroit wrote on Facebook. “…He would definitely need to have the chain surgically removed. Very strange the way that the chain goes through part of his next skin almost as if it was pierced through.”
Tiffany Perkins, a volunteer from the rescue, arrived at the house to find the dog, abandoned in such a heartless manner. “Beaker was timid and cowered behind the garage to hide,” Tiffany said. “He peeked out the side as I started calling for him. As I got closer, his tail started wagging. Then he pushed his weight against us for petting him — and seemed to be visibly relieved. He ‘meeped’ like a muppet, he was so excited, so he got the name Beaker!”
“When the chain was untethered from the garage, he dropped to the ground for belly rubs and kisses and playful chaos,” Tiffany added.
Although his tail was wagging, Beaker was not in the clear yet because of the chain stuck around his neck.
“…The large metal clasp is intentionally pierced through the skin. Once Beaker arrived at the ER, it was clearer how severe this case of abuse was,” Rebel Dogs Detroit wrote in an update on Facebook.
The staff at the rescue believe that Beaker only knew of a life in chains before he was dumped in the stranger’s backyard. However, they could see that he was still a loving dog despite his difficult past.
The chain was surgically removed, and Beaker was finally on the road to recovery
“…A loving, optimistic puppy only knowing life on a chain through his neck, will now know reciprocated love and comfort,” the rescue added. After spending weeks in foster care, Beaker is “all healed up from horrific neck wounds,” Rebel Dogs Detroit said in a follow-up post. “This boy is having such a good time in foster care! He was surprised when we told him it was time to find a forever home! We asked Beaker what kind of home he was hoping for, and he said ‘a pooch to play with, perhaps?’ After an intro, Beaker is friendly with dogs and likes all people.”
The adorable dog is going from a chained life to a loving forever home and will hopefully find his new family soon.
