DOTHAN, Ala. – A coat drive has been held Saturday afternoon for Dothan’s homeless population.

Organizer Kim Lovelace had been collecting coats, shirts, pants, and other necessary items for weeks prior to the distribution.

Those items, along with a hot meal, were given out at Mama Tina’s Mission House.

Lovelace said she was in tears at the overwhelming response from volunteers, donations, and the need of the community.

“This is important in this community, especially around this area,” Lovelace said. “It is cold, it’s winter time. This is the time you need coats and stuff. We don’t want the community to be suffering.”

Lovelace says there will be similar events like this in the future.
