A man was arrested in connection to an early-morning Memorial Day shooting near Western Hills Mall

FAIRFIELD, Ala. —  According to the statement, his name is Charles Cecil Porch and he is charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.

A deputy was patrolling the area near Western Hills Mall, at approximately 1:30 a.m., when he heard multiple gunshots.

Then the deputy saw a vehicle leave the roadway, strike a tree and come to a rest near the 7200 block of Aaron Aronov Drive.

When the deputy got to the vehicle, he found that a 35-year-old woman and a 26-year old man inside the vehicle had been shot.

Both victims were transported by ambulance to UAB Hospital.

The suspect suffered life-threatening injuries and the woman’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The 37-year-old man was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
