DOTHAN, Ala. — Good Friday is here; it’s a day where Christians commemorate when Jesus Christ was crucified.

While many families have their own traditions leading up to Easter Sunday, one local faith-based gym, Synergy Energy, has its own tradition.

“Cross has been here for several years and then during Easter they put the black on it and Lord willing on Sunday morning, I’ll come by Sunday morning, and put the white on it for He has risen,” Steve Cunningham, co-owner said.

Cunningham said the cross gives him motivation when he’s having a bad day. Gym goers told WDHN they feel the spirit of God as soon as they walk in the door.

“Right when you pull up and you see the cross and everybody here, I don’t know, just helps me get my day started makes me have a good day,” exercise enthusiast, Kristi Sizemore said.

This is music to Cunningham’s ears as he pushes people to be better.

“When people leave here most of them who feel and connect with us they leave here feeling better and that’s my goal and our goal that you leave here feeling better than you did coming in,” Cunningham explained.

When you come to a Synergy class you’ll get more than a workout.

“My young instructors decided to do it I didn’t even tell them to do it they get up after class and they give a word, not just motivational speeches, a word from God,” Cunningham said.

Synergy Energy provides morning and evening classes every day.

Both Cunningham and his wife, Linda wish everyone a Happy Easter and encourages everyone to workout with them and get the word of God at the same time.
