DOTHAN, Ala.— You’ve heard the phrase no child left behind; now, one resident is applying that to people who struggle with homelessness by providing them COVID-19 care packages.

Dothan resident Erica White came up with the idea because she wanted to help those in need.

“In the boxes, we have antibacterial wipes, cough drops masks, toothpaste, and toothbrush; of course, we even have hand sanitizer,” White said.

She hopes the boxes will give those struggling with homelessness extra help.

“I really want to help the people that are left behind that are not in shelters and don’t have access to these types of things,” White said.

According to White, many homeless people aren’t in shelters and tend to be overlooked.

“My mission is to help the people that don’t have access to these that can’t get into the shelter and have masks, they need to be safe just as we are,” said White.

White’s non-profit organization, Just New Beginnings with Angels, focuses on helping the homeless as much as possible.

“For every box that someone donates, we donate three non-perishable items as well,” White said.

She plans on traveling around Dothan to personally give the packages to the homeless, starting at the Dothan Houston County Library.
