DOTHAN, Ala. — With the difficult year 2020 has been, many local businesses have suffered, and some have even gone out of business.
But with the holiday season upon us, businesses are hoping they’ll see an increase in revenue.
A few of these local places are still reeling from the temporary closures back in the spring.
“Staffing for this fall has been a challenge,” Shute Pecan Company Owner Sandi Hodge said. “Trucking for both sides, for our retail and our wholesale, has been a challenge. There’s supply chain issues. I just got a notice that the glass for our quart jars; they’re out.”
The Shute Pecan Company is just one of the many local businesses that felt the effects of this year, but they are grateful that the Wiregrass community came together to help them stay afloat after their closure in April.
“Our May numbers were much better than 2019, and I think that was just people being intentional about coming to shop with local businesses,” Hodge said.
She explained that shop local Saturday was a huge success and that the company is looking forward to seeing more people and orders as the holidays get closer.
“But for me, the love we feel the boost that we get from people just making that choice you know making a choice to come in and shop with us,” Hodge said. “That means the world to our staff and to me.”
