DOTHAN, Ala. – Phase one of Alabama’s COID-19 Vaccination Allocation Plan is working to fill in the gap that hospitals are not able to cover.
The first part of phase one will allow the 325,000 health care workers in the state to set an appointment to receive the Moderna vaccine at their local health department clinic.
Part B of phase one will focus on essential workers at the highest risk of exposure and those 75 and older.
Essential workers include first responders, U.S. Postal Service employees, and those working in the food, manufacturing, grocery store, and education sectors.
The third part of phase one will offer the vaccine to those with high-risk medical conditions and those who are 65 and older
The Alabama Department of Public Health does not have a concrete timeline as the ability to move to the next phase is dependent on vaccine supply.
The state is hoping to order more vaccines to meet the phase 1A need.
“All across the state including here they are struggling or maxed out with their ICU beds and the staff is trying so we are trying to stabilize that workforce so that we have people to take care of us when we need it not just for covid-19 but for other things, unfortunately, people come into the hospital for all the way down to elective surgeries,” says ADPH health services administrator Korey Kirkland.
