DOTHAN, Ala. — The Wiregrass Resource Conservation and Development is tackling substance abuse in Houston County.

Members heard from the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development about substance abuse in our county Thursday.

The university has been conducting studies throughout the state.

The goal? To see how community leaders and workers feel about the amount of substance abuse in Houston County and ways to fight it.

“The most important thing, and we’ve seen this in every county we’ve participated in, is that they’ll learn something about their own county,” said Arturo Menefee, director of leadership development. “They’ll learn something about a resource that maybe they did not know about, and also just being able to make connections to the people that are inside that room today I think will be very helpful.”

Attendees were asked to participate in a survey and also participated in a roundtable discussion.
