Wiregrass Church on West Main moved their services to online only today after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
The church posted a message on Facebook about the decision.
On Saturday 24 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Houston County. That is the most cases for one day since the Alabama Department of Public Health began recording the numbers back in March.
When the virus first began, Governor Kay Ivey closed non-essential businesses including churches to try and flatten the curve.
Since the state moved to a “Safer At Home” policy on May 21 the numbers have climbed. On Saturday a new 7-day increase record was set.
Cities like Montgomery, Birmingham and Mobile have either approved mask ordinances or are considering doing so this week.
