What you need to know to apply to be a poll worker

DOTHAN, Ala. – September 1st has been designated as National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. This was done by the United States Elections Assistance Commission to raise awareness on the importance and benefits of working the polls.

There are just a few requirements making it possible for just about anyone to participate.

  • You must be registered to vote in the state of Alabama
  • Registered to vote in the precinct in which you desire to act as a poll worker
  • Attend all mandatory poll worker training
  • You cannot be a member of the candidates immediate family, second degree of kinship-that being aunts,uncles,nieces and nephews or a member of the candidates political committee.

Workers who assist in the general election on November 3rd will receive an additional $50 supplement pay, plus the usual county pay.

This is in result of the increase of duties related to keeping voters and workers safe during COVID-19.

If applying all applications should be returned to your county probate judge.

High school students over the age of sixteen can also apply to be poll worker interns. The students must be recommended by the principle and return their applications to the probate judge.
