DOTHAN, Ala. — Westside Terrace has released its latest data on its COVID-19 situation after its first round of vaccinations.

According to Vice President Jeremy Alphord, the facility reached a 95 percent vaccination rate for its residents. In total, 105 residents and 39 staff members got their first dose of COVID-19 through a partnership with Walgreens.

“We have worked with Walgreens to ensure residents and staff receive a fact sheet before vaccination, explaining the risks and benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine,” Alphord told WDHN. “This is called an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) Fact Sheet. We have also offered information sessions hosted by pharmacists at Turenne PharMedCo. These sessions provided information regarding the vaccine to all staff and allowed them to ask questions and fully understand the facts and remove any misinformation.”

However, as of Thursday, Westside Terrace is reporting 62 active COVID-19 cases among its residents. This is more than half of the 105 total cases reported among residents since the beginning of 2020.

Thirty residents did recover from the virus while another nine died while positive with COVID-19. However, Alphord said the residents may not have necessarily died from COVID-19 itself.

A look at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid shows that as of Jan. 17, no COVID-19 deaths had been confirmed among the residents. Westside Terrace submits data to the CMS weekly, but the database can take up to two weeks to show the figures.
