Update on Wiregrass Pet Rescue and Adoption Center

DOTHAN, Ala. — The city is one step closer to completing a new sanctuary for our furry friends.

Plans for the new Wiregrass pet rescue and adoption center started in 2019. The new center will be on Highway 52 and will replace the old Dothan Animal Shelter.

Dothan Police Chief Will Benny said the old facility is not adequate for housing of the number of pets they have.

“Our goal is trying to create a venue that is number one, inviting for people to come and adopt animals and number two a safe and secure environment for the animals waiting to be adopted,” Benny said.

Benny told WDHN as we move closer to getting back to normal, he thinks the new center will start moving along quickly.
