DOTHAN, Ala. – There at two additional cases of coronavirus at Southeast Health, bringing the total number to four. Five cases have now been confirmed in Houston County.
Besides Southeast Health, the other is at Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation, where two other residents who suffered symptoms are awaiting test results.
Meanwhile, Alabama has recorded its first death from COVID-19, a part time worker at the Jackson County Courthouse.
The number of Alabama cases is now at 386, up over 100 on Wednesday. That count includes a faculty member and student at Troy University’s main campus. They are quarantined.
An error with Marshall County numbers initially showed statewide cases at 415, but Alabama Department of Public Health figures have since been corrected to indicate one case, not 35, in that county.
Tracking coronavirus numbers is difficult. ADPH only lists cases involving state residents, For that reason, two of Southeast Health’s patients are not part of Alabama’s count because they live out of state.
Southeast Health’s website, though, displays a running tally that includes those who live elsewhere. As of Wednesday night, the hospital showed 58 tests have been given there. Besides the four positives, 41 have been negative and results are pending on 13 others.
