Thousands of residents will go through another night without electricity Thursday going into Friday.

That’s due to the storm that hit the northwestern and western counties Wednesday night.

As of Thursday night, Alabama Power said it has 6,200 customers without power. The majority of the outages are in the western part of the state around Haleyville.

The company said that crews are continue to work to restore service.

But Tombigbee Electric Cooperative, which provides power to rural parts of several counties, estimates power will be fully restored by Friday night or Saturday morning.

Tombigbee is getting help from crews all over Alabama and Florida.

We caught up with a family in the Marion County town of Brilliant.

They had to tough it out through the night without any heat.

Temperatures inside their mobile home were in the 50’s early Thursday morning.

Wendell Kimbrell explained how his family made it through the night.

“We’ll it’s pretty tough. But we’ve got a lot of blankets. And I’m a soldier. That kind of helps. We just do the best we can. We just bundle up,” Kimbrell said.

Wendell’s son, Chris, said it’s important to wear several layers of clothes to stay warm

“I mean I have on two pairs of sweatpants, I have an undershirt on and just a lot of clothes. And we have candles burning. But really just a lot of blankets,” Chris Kimbrell said.

But the family’s top priority is protecting 11 puppies. They’re only a week old.

Jennifer Ryan is Chris’ girlfriend.

“I had to make a makeshift house for the puppies and the mother. Put the towels down. As much as I can to keep it clean is what I’m doing,” Ryan said.

The family plans to power their home Thursday night with a generator.
