Souper Bowl Drive scores canned soup for seniors

DOTHAN, Ala. – Wiregrass Area Food Bank volunteers and Toyota of Dothan team members collected soup donations outside of Walmart from 8 a.m. to 5 this evening.

The food bank’s goal was to collect enough canned soup to give each of the 1,600 seniors in their Brown Bag program five cans.

The Brown Bag program provides low-income seniors with monthly grocery packages, but the Souper Bowl Drive is a step further in support.

“Soup is easy to prepare. It’s nutritious. It’s warming during the cold temperatures that are sure to come soon and we just want to have a little bit extra to give out in our brown bag distribution so that our seniors know that they are loved and that we care about them and we want them to do well and have nutritious food,” says Wiregrass Area Food Banks assistant director Julie Gonzalez.

If you couldn’t make it to Walmart, you can support the drive by purchasing soup on Amazon off of the food bank’s wish list or taking your soup or monetary donation to the food bank located at 382 Twitchell Road.
