Some stores, such as CVS and Walgreens, said this week they are reviewing their in-store mask requirements in light of the new CDC guidelines.
Home Depot and Starbucks are among the companies maintaining their masking policies.
Masks are also still required in many healthcare settings.
Beyond local stores, masks will still be required for summer plane, train or bus travel.
The Transportation Security Administration in late April extended a face mask requirement for airplanes, airports, trains, commuter rail systems and other forms of public transportation through Sept. 13.
