DOTHAN, Ala. — Dothan police arrested a Shorterville man Monday for a robbery and kidnapping that happened this past February.

Sgt. Tim Mullis said Frederick Benard Owens, 50, approached two people in a car on Reeves Street and held a screwdriver to the driver’s neck.

He then forced the driver and passenger to take him to a bank at the intersection of the Ross Clark Circle and Montgomery Highway. Mullis said he made the pair withdraw a total of $300 from their accounts.

The victims, being from out of town, did not know Owens, but Dothan police knew of Owens from prior history.

Owens faces two counts of robbery first degree and two counts of kidnapping second degree. Mullis said Owens was also found with a marijuana cigarette, which led him to be charged possession of marijuana first-degree — with the charge being upgraded to first-degree due to a prior possession of marijuana conviction.
