DOTHAN, Ala. – The Enterprise Lady Cats dropped a frustrating 8-7 loss to their rival Dothan Lady Wolves in an elimination game in the Class 7A Regionals on May 14.

After an explosive first inning that saw Enterprise jump out to a 6-4 lead, Dothan took control in the third inning with three runs to go up 7-6. The Lady Wolves added another run in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 8-6.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with Enterprise needing two runs to tie the score, Kyleigh Coin drilled a home run into left field that cut the Dothan lead to 8-7. Unfortunately for the Lady Cats they couldn’t get another player into scoring position and Dothan held them off to secure the 8-7 win and eliminate Enterprise from the playoffs.

Coin – as she’s done all year – led Enterprise at the plate going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs and a homer. Ella Little also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, while Georgia Lessman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Taylor Danford, Kinley Hutto and Katie Valentine also scored one run each.

Skylar Frey pitched five innings and struck out two batters, while giving up eight hits and one run. Coin pitched two innings and gave up five hits and seven runs – five those runs earned – and struck out one batter.

Earlier in the day Enterprise lost to Thompson 4-1 with Lessman going 3-for-3 with a run to lead the Lady Cats at the plate. Frey pitched all six innings and struck out four batters, while giving up seven hits and four runs. Just one of those runs was an earned run, however. Thompson went on to beat Dothan in an elimination game to advance to the state tournament.
