GENEVA COUNTY, Ala.— A Geneva family is in mourning after one of their own was attacked by dogs, spent an entire month fighting for his life, and eventually died.
Three weeks ago, thirty-nine year old Geneva resident Daniel Cade Jr was attacked by a pack of dogs.
“My family’s reaction to this is we’re..we’re at a lost for words like this was a very senseless horrible act that could very well been avoided,” sister Renee Watkins said.
Cade was walking down this road, something he did on a regular basis. That’s when he was attacked by dogs leading to his death.
Family members were overwhelmed with heartache from this attack.
“Honestly words does not. Words does not not even come close to letting you know how I feel and what his parents are going through,” uncle Michael Cade said.
While family members search for answers on what really happened this isn’t first dog attack in the county. Sheriff Tony Helms told WDHN this has been an ongoing problem.
“Killed several years ago a young girl that was killed uh south of uh Sloccomb in an instance where some dogs got into it and it’s tragic anytime someone is killed by em,” Helms said.
He said there is no dog pound in Geneva County due to a lack of funds. However, the family just wants county and city leaders to get involved.
“I know things like this does happen but the way this neighborhood looks, I’m surprised the county the Mayor anybody hasn’t come down here and cleaned up this place,” Hayes said.
Daniel’s sister, Renee has two dogs of her own and said she would have never let them do something like this to someone. She believes it comes down to being responsible for your pets.
She wants residents to remember her brother as a happy person.
“Daniel was full of love he loved life, he was a very happy caring loving individual we would want you to remember Daniel as such,” Watkins said.
The Cades are asking residents for prayers and invite Daniel’s friends and family to join a livestream of his memorial service at sunsetmemorialpark.com on April 16th. Followed by a balloon ceremony where the public is welcomed, on Saturday April 17th at 2pm taking place the Geneva County Junction.
