DOTHAN, Ala.— On Monday, Congress passed a $900 billion COVID Relief Package that would issue out $600 to Americans, giving the relief many have been looking for.
However, President Donald Trump had demanded that the bill be raised to $2000, arguing that $600 wasn’t “enough” for the American people.
Thursday night, lawmakers voted against this increase. This leaves many residents who were depending on those funds to suffer.
One resident is hurt by the outcome and thinks lawmakers need to focus more on the people.
“Everybody needs help and right now it’s getting worse instead of better and I wish they had just put the politics aside and worry about the American people.” Resident Jeff Crowe said.
For some residents, it’s been an ongoing nightmare since the pandemic was declared back in March.
Others think this is just a minor setback.
In the spirit of Christmas, one resident said, the message is that we are all still blessed and believe the American people are resilient and can get through this.
“We, as the American people, are pretty resourceful people,” Resident Mary Hannes said. “So I would think here at Christmas is going to be what is brought out which is the blessings of being together and having family and being grateful for our Jesus Christ.”
