DOTHAN, Ala. — Wednesday is the first major signing day, with the second coming in February. On the early signing day, Dothan Wolves’ seniors Bauer Sharp and Jayden Folmar each signed the dotted line.

Sharp, Dothan’s quarterback, will be headed to Southeast Louisiana to join the Lions football program. The Lions compete at the FCS level as a member of the Southland conference.

“It was awesome, all this hard work over the years paying off. Finally get to do what I have dreamt of all these years,” Sharp said about signing.

Moving to Dothan high before his Junior season, Sharp split time at quarterback last season with then senior, Jamal Lane. This past fall during Sharp’s senior year, it was his time to shine.

Throwing for 1,082 yards and eight touchdowns, Sharp used the short amount of time he had to gain the attention of college coaches. And, given the COVID-19 pandemic, earning that attention was difficult.

“It has been hard, I think it would have been different had we not had the pandemic but it all turned out for a reason. I got an offer from them and I am thankful for it.”

One of Sharp’s main targets this season was the man he signed with today, Jayden Folmar who signed with Rice and Sharp was quick to say how much he appreciated signing with his receiver.

“I have only known him for two years but we are like family, that was one of my receivers, one of my good receivers. I love that man, we had each others backs during the season last year and this year so it was good signing with him.”

Folmar was on the receiving end of 480 of Sharp’s yards and he helped bring in six touchdown catches over the course of the 2020 season. Signing with Rice, an FBS division one school, Folmar will be competing in Conference USA.

Before he officially signed, Dothan head coach, Smitty Grider said that Folmar was one of the hardest working athletes that he has coached. That hard work is what got Jayden in this position.

“You know it was real exciting, you know I worked all these years, working for this you know. This has been an exciting piece of my life and I am ready to move on to the next level,” Folmar said.

Last year, Dothan had two seniors sign to play college football as well. Those guys would be Jabre Barber and Ta’bryious Webb, Folmar said that he talked to them to learn what to expect from the college level.

“They both tell me to keep my head on right. College is different than high school. They said the big thing is to be focused.”
