DOTHAN, Ala. — It all started when Azara Degourville began cooking at five years old.
“I’ve been obsessed with food since I was like five,” Degourville said. “I was inspired mostly from my grandmother just being in the kitchen with her and then also from food network.”
Today, Degourville dreams of opening her own restaurant and now, that dream might come true. Degourville was randomly nominated by a customer for World’s Favorite Chef. She says she never saw the nomination coming.
“To even know I’m at the front of someone’s mind when they think of World’s Favorite Chef, so I feel honored and I’m elated to be part of the competition,” Degourville said.
Degourville now has the chance to win $50,000, the title of the World’s Favorite Chef, and a two-page article in Bon Appetit magazine, a monthly magazine with recipes, restaurant recommendations and wine reviews.
Winning the title of World’s Favorite Chef would top off a year filled with success; success that is partially thanks to the pandemic.
“Honestly the pandemic has allowed my business to flourish because the need for in-home dining has went through the roof,” said Degourville.
