DOTHAN, Ala. — Gov. Ivey announced Tuesday that the amended Safer at Home order would be extended to July 31.
The order was originally set to expire this Friday, but the recent rise in COVID-19 cases changed that. Some in the Dothan community are ready for things to get back to normal.
“I just feel like we should open our eyes, and, you know, just continue being diligent in our safety precautions and get back to functioning,” Dothan resident Kendall Jackson said. “You know because it’s not ever going to be a clear safe moment to just, you know, get back to being regular. I feel like we should just make that judgement call and get back to it.”
Others said they are okay with the extension and think it’s best for the community.
“I think it’s best to be safe than sorry you know,” Dothan resident Jimmy Knight said. “The governor extended, you know, I think we should be abiding by it. That’s the sign of good leadership.”
Some wonder why we are seeing a spike in numbers? The Houston County EMA director said it’s because of more test being done.
“One of the reasons we’re seeing a spike in those numbers right now is because more people are getting tested,” Houston County EMA director Chris Judah said. “So we’re very cautious with that. We’re making sure our hospitals, our nursing homes and other facilities. Such as our healthcare workers and first responders have the PPE needed that they need out there to do their jobs.”
