DOTHAN, Ala. – The group that organizes Dothan’s Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations has canceled 2021′s events.
The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance and Leadership Coalition (IMALC) has organized MLK events in Dothan for over 30 years.
The groups says they are canceling the 2021 events out of an abundance of caution and in compliance with CDC guidelines.
Celeste Johnson Morehead, President of IMALC, says, “Our aim of keeping the ones we love safe is our way of honoring Dr. King’s legacy this year. There are other celebrations taking place this year however, IMALC will spend this time preparing for next year’s events.”
IMALC is encouraging families to use this time to reflect on the historical significance of the celebration and “connect it to the history-making events occurring as the manifestation of a dream being fulfilled.”
