DOTHAN, Ala. — Every year, millions of people are trafficked in the United States.

At Dare to Hope Ministries, organizers focus on advocating for Wiregrass victims.

City commissioners supported Dare to Hope by making January “Human Trafficking Awareness Month.”

Dare to Hope’s founder Gia Hughes said the proclamation is much needed and will bring the awareness they need.

“We believe that the proclamation brings awareness because the first step, if you don’t see it, then there’s no way if you don’t understand what it is or what’s going on here so it’s the first step,” Hughes said.

Hughes reminds victims who are struggling to leave that there is help is available.
