DOTHAN, Ala. — Dothan City Commission met Tuesday and received a grant for some new greenery.

The Alabama Forestry Commission gave the city a grant for over $80,000 dollars.

This grant will assist the city in receiving a tree canopy assessment and revise the city’s tree ordinance.

This grant comes after the damage of Hurricane Michael in 2018.

“Replacement of trees that were lost in Hurricane Michael and we lost quite a bit of canopy and this will help with the long term in both beautification and the other tree values to the city so I think it is a great program,” Dothan Horticulturist Dan Williams said.

Williams added that the canopy assessment will be extremely important in this beautification process.
