JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala.— It has been more than two months since a deadly tornado ripped through the city of Fultondale.
Many residents in the area are still trying to get a handle on situation.
“It’s kind of slow, we haven’t gotten all of the stuff out totally yet but they are working on it, quite extensive damage to the house,” said resident Ron Handley.
The city is in the midst of negotiating bids with debris removal companies.
Fultondale Mayor Larry Holcomb asked residents to be patient during the process.

“I know it’s a little aggravating to some of the citizens because they don’t understand the process, I originally said when we first had the tornado that it was going to be a long term process and this is just part of it,” said Holcomb.
The Small Business Administration is set up at the Fultondale Library to help anyone affected by the storm get a loan at a low interest rate for repairs or to rebuild.
“We do request some basic information such as name and contact info, we look at credit but we don’t do so the way a bank does, we do so, so we can establish your ability to repay,” said Roberto Baltodano with SBA.
The SBA will be in the Fultondale community until help is no longer needed.
Its hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM-6:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM-2:00 PM.
