DOTHAN, Ala. – We’re are almost one maskless week out since the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask.

Alabama lawmakers inch forward to banning vaccine passports that would require proof of a COVID-19 vaccination to enter a business, school or public event.

On Monday, the Alabama House of Representatives voted 76 to 16 for the bill.

The State Senate must now agree to minor house changes. Republications say requiring a vaccine passport would be a government intrusion into personal freedom and health choices.

Several Democrats expressed concern after Republican representatives stripped language exempting nursing homes and other health offices.

The bill now awaits an approval signature from Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey.
