ALABAMA – As the state legislative session continues, one bill that has been proposed is to end straight party or straight ticket voting in Alabama.
This is a constitutional amendment that, if passed, would add Alabama to the majority of the country that does not have this type of voting during elections.
“In a place like Alabama, it feels like it’s a partisan issue,” Stephanie Butler of League of Women Voters said. “But things like straight-ticket voting or gerrymandering, they’re really just about responsible citizenship. If you travel to states where it’s a big Democrat majority, it’s the Republicans who are advocating for these kinds of reforms so at the end of the day, it’s really about responsible and informed citizenship.”
