Sneads, ALABAMA – According to the police officials, a man was killed when he began firing at law enforcement officers Saturday morning. Sneads Police Department officer suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

The identity of the suspects was not released. Officials said that one JCSO deputy, who was not identified by authorities, and the SPD officer were the two policemen engaged but did not specify who shot the individual.

Officials say he started firing as SPD and JCSO officers were chatting with a guy nearby who had phoned for help in what JCSO characterized as a disturbance that morning. Officials provided no more explanation for the disturbance call.

Around 8:19 a.m., the incident occurred just off McKeown Mill Road and just west of the Sneads municipal boundaries, with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office dispatching a deputy and a Sneads police aiding.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is looking into the incident, as is customary in the event of an officer-involved shooting in this state.

The officer who was hurt is on medical leave, and everyone else engaged in the event will be on paid leave until the inquiry is carried out.
