DOTHAN, Ala. — The Wiregrass community is no stranger when it comes to severe weather and power outages, but we are now a step closer to making sure we stay on the grid.

The new utilities operation center has officially opened in Dothan.

It is built entirely out of concrete and will withstand winds up to two-hundred miles per hour.

The new building will act as a Central Operation Center with the primary goal to give high reliability service.

Officials say they will now be able to direct staff and public employees to restore power to the areas that are hit the hardest in storms.

“All aspects of city services is to be able to work together in concert, instantaneously focus on the needs, saves time, saves personal, makes more efficiency, ” President of AMEA Fred Clark said. ” And brings about a new utilization of resources.”

Clark says the new center will help build reliability in the area and give back bone support to the community.
