DOTHAN, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Public Health announced Tuesday that Dothan has been selected as a site for one of eight large scale drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination clinics that will be set-up across the state next week.
However, the specific details of the drive-thru clinics were not released by ADPH. Additional information will be provided about the location in each city once plans are finalized, according to an ADPH release.
Other clinics will be located in Anniston, Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Selma, and Tuscaloosa with the goal for each location to give 1,000 vaccines per day, totaling 40,000 doses administered, in a statewide effort to accelerate the pace of the vaccine rollout.
On Monday, ADPH opened the COVID-19 Vaccination Eligibility Check and Scheduling Portal at www.alcovidvaccine.gov. The portal allows residents to schedule available vaccine appointments, access a map of drive-thru and walk-in locations, and sign up to be notified as new priority groups are available to receive vaccine.
Appointments may not be available immediately, as ADPH continues to be limited by the amount of vaccine provided by the federal government, but access to appointments will grow as supply from the federal government increases.
As of Tuesday morning, 18,820 appointments had been scheduled since the portal launched on Monday afternoon. The portal is seeing around 300 active users at a time, and has booked an average of 900 appointments per hour.
