DOTHAN, Ala.— Night one of the Presidential Debates just wrapped up, but the reactions have just started. WDHN spoke to two Wiregrass political leaders during the debates to see their reactions to the debates and the topics being covered.
“The media is continuing to ask Trump, to ask the president if he is gonna accept the outcome of the election when they need to be asking that to the democrats,” said Brandon Shoupe, Houston County Republican Party Chairman.
“I think that he will lose, we think that President Trump will lose, but then the other part of that is what’s going to happen when he loses and that’s where the real issue is involved, and I don’t think he will take it peacefully,” said Edward Vaughn, Houston County Democratic Party Chairman.
Both parties have topics they are worried about, including the Supreme Court nominee, COVID-19, and law and order.
“If President Trump loses, I’m going to be upset but I’m not going to go burn down the city of Dothan. But I guarantee you if Joseph Biden loses, there’s going to be some cities that go up in smoke because the intolerant left can not tolerate the fact that there are some people that think different from that… it’s not coming from conservatives, it’s not coming from the Republicans,” Shoupe said.
“Trump is trying to blame it on Democratic governors but that’s not the case, he never says anything about the far right and the armed militia that is involved in all of these battles,” Vaughn said.
