DOTHAN, Ala. – Jihad Amir Huntington, first charged with capital murder, has been indicted on a lesser charge of felony murder. He and two others are accused of killing 18-year old Keontre Whatley, who died last March.

Authorities found Whatley, who had been shot, lying along U.S. 84 near Dothan. Workers at nearby Home Oil Company first spotted his remains. Robbery is the apparent motive.

Huntington, 19, would have faced the death penalty had the grand jury indicted him on the capital murder charge. Instead, his maximum potential punishment would be life in prison.

Also accused in Whatley’s death are 27-year old Johnnie Settle and Richard Wayne Thomas II. They are awaiting grand jury action.

All suspects, who are from Dothan, are jailed without bond.
