DOTHAN, Ala. – Many of you are probably making big plans to grill, go camping or catch a firework show during this holiday weekend. But to keep your family and yourself safe make sure to keep these tips in the back of your head.
If releasing fireworks at your home, do not give small children a firework. While sparklers are thought to be the safest route for a child the tip of can reach temperatures over 1,100 degrees.
Fire officials say during this time of year the emergency rooms see higher cases of burns to hands and facial injuries.
They also say you should a water hose or bucket off whatever close by while setting fireworks off.
The Fourth of July also brings along many camping trips. While camping make sure you put your camp fires and grills out in the recommended way.
You should drown the fire in water till it is cold to touch and never dispose of hot coals in plastic trash cans or anything of that nature.
Fireworks are prohibited from being released in city limits. Fire officials says it is best to leave firework shows to the pros.
