DOTHAN, Ala. – The Super Bowl is next week and only a few will get to play in the game, but everyone can participate in the Souper Bowl and help local seniors in need.
The Wiregrass Area Food Bank’s Souper Bowl Canned Soup Drive for seniors is underway.
The drive benefits the Brown Bag program which supplies low-income seniors with groceries once a month.
Every February, March, and April the food bank goes a step further and aims to give the group canned soups along with their regular food package.
To make it happen, the food bank needs the community’s help.
Businesses, churches, and groups are invited to host Souper Bowl drives.
Individuals can help by donating canned soups at one of the drives or making a monetary donation to be used to buy soup in the bulk.
“There are 1,620 seniors enrolled in the brown bag program we would like to be able to give them 5 cans each. What we’re trying to do is to provide for them a nutritious easy to prepare meal for one that warms the bones on these cold nights,” says Wiregrass Area Food Bank assistant director Julie Gonzalez.
The first soup-er bowl canned soup drive is next Friday, February 5th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Southside Walmart in Dothan.
If you can’t make it to the drive, donations can always be dropped off at the food bank.
