Enterprise’s Katie Boyd Britt prays about senate race

DOTHAN, Ala. -Business Council of Alabama CEO Katie Boyd Britt is praying about a U.S Senate run.

“For my family it’s something that Wesley (her husband) and I have to pray about and talk about,” Britt said in Dothan on Wednesday.

She is among several prominently mentioned possibilities to seek the seat held for decades by Republican Senator Richard Shelby, who won’t seek a seventh term.

Britt claims her sole focus is on the Business Council of Alabama, where she also is president.

“I’m working diligently at my job to make sure that businesses– small, medium, and large–continue to flourish in this state,” she told WTVY.

Before Britt took the BCA job, that group faced numerous challenges that endangered its clout. Some of Alabama’s most influential businesses pulled out in a dispute with management.

Britt, in her two years at BCA, has mended fences.

That experience gives her impressive credentials if she chooses to enter the political arena but, perhaps more important, is her knowledge of Washington’s landscape.

Twice Britt worked for Shelby, her latest stint as his chief of staff.

An Enterprise native, she has no timetable to decide about running for his seat but with the primary barely a year away it must come soon.

Besides Britt, media reports have connected at least a dozen other possible candidates to the race.
