DOTHAN, Ala. A Dothan city commissioner has been appointed to U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville’s staff. John Ferguson will serve as a regional director, representing Tuberville in 12 south Alabama counties.

Ferguson confirmed his appointment on Tuesday.

His primary responsibility will be to work with local governments and convey their concerns to Tuberville and his Washington staff.

Ferguson plans to remain on the city commission because the Alabama Ethics Commission, he said, determined holding both jobs simultaneously won’t create a conflict of interest.

He will complete his second term in the fall and has not announced if he will seek reelection.

Ferguson coordinated Tuberville’s campaign appearances in the Wiregrass area.

The former Auburn coach defeated six Republicans in the primary then defeated incumbent Doug Jones in the general election.

Ferguson told WTVY an official release regarding his appointment is forthcoming from Tuberville’s office.
