DOTHAN, Ala. — The holidays can be a great time to enjoy the company of your family….But some are not as fortunate. They have to go through the holidays alone, hungry, and sometimes’ even homeless.

For forty years the Dothan Rescue Mission has been a haven for those that are lost or lonely by providing shelters and meals. During the holidays the need for community help is vital to those who are alone…

“It can be an emotional time for them, a lot of them are in a down place and they are not feeling to loved or too hopeful and for us to just come and spend some time with them and talk and have conversations with them and try and cheer them up as much as we can,” said Brad Hardy, the Executive Director at Dothan Rescue Mission.

Over forty people came and enjoyed a classic Christmas meal featuring ham, green bean casserole, yams and a tray of deserts. For those serving, they chose to take time away from their own families to come out and serve their community.

“God gave me a servant heart when I started working here. I have always loved people but he really has given me the ability to show compassion to others and I really enjoy my job. so I did spend the morning away from my children but I was able to spend the middle of the day with them and then come right back here and do what I love to do which is serve others,” Ashley Montgomery, the Dothan Rescue Mission’s Kitchen and Lounge Manager said.
