DOTHAN, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Public Health reiterated Saturday that it is overwhelmed with phone calls from those wanting COVID vaccines. However, a spokesperson for that state agency said others who also called do not qualify at this time and their calls bogged down phone lines.

“COVID-19 vaccination appointments are currently only available for healthcare workers, people 75 years and older, and first responders, including law enforcement and firefighters,” per a statement from ADPH spokesperson Ryan Easterling.

He said 1.1. million phone calls were received Friday.

“Hospital switchboards continue to be overwhelmed with phone calls as well. Please do not call your local hospital directly to set up appointments to receive your COVID-19 vaccine.” Easterling said.
