DOTHAN, Ala. – Only two people applied to become Dothan’s next police chief after the job was made available only to internal candidates.
City spokesperson Vincent Vincent said names of those two applicants will not be made public now. They are members of the police department’s command staff that include a major and several captains.
A new chief is expected to be named on January 19, when commissioners next meet. They will vote whether to accept the recommendation of City Manager Kevin Cowper.
The person selected will take over duties from Steve Parrish who has announced his retirement after 36 years with the department. He served the past 5 ½ years as chief.
