DOTHAN, Ala. — Grammy-winning country music artist John Berry is coming to Dothan!
Although the tour is still happening this year, it will look different from years past.
“The tour is a little smaller than normal,” Berry said. “Normally we’d do 20-25 cities, this year only six. But it is a special Christmas for our family though, we’ve got a great thing going on. Our first grandbaby was born this year so it’s going to be fun. It’s an exciting time for us.”
With less opportunities to perform due to COVID-19, Berry has found new ways to stay in touch with the creative community.
“One of the things my wife and I took on is we created a podcast called ‘Faith, Family & Friends’,” Berry told WDHN. “We’ve had all sorts of folks join us for our podcast including the very last interview we did with Charlie Daniels on July the first. Sadly, he passed away on July the fifth. It was a wonderful conversation we had with Charlie. This week our guest was Megan Alexander who’s a correspondent with Inside Edition. We had football coach Vince Dooley from the Georgia Bulldogs and his wife Barbara. So many different people on different walks of life. It’s been a lot of fun. It’s been something to really keep us busy and maintain being creative.”
Once the holiday season arrived, Berry and his team were able to make the annual Christmas tour happen. The city of Dothan will mark the final stop of the tour. However, there will be some noticeable changes.
For the past 15 years, the concert was held at the Dothan Opera House. But due to limited seating and social distancing issues, the concert will be held at the Dothan Civic Center.
“We’ll make the most of it,” Berry said. “We’re going to fill that room up, maybe not with bodies because of COVID restrictions, but we’ll fill it up with some Christmas joy.”
Despite the changes, Wiregrass residents will still be treated to fan favorite songs as well as holiday-themed tunes.
“We’re going to do some songs we’ve had on the radio over the years including a couple of new songs,” Berry expalined. “Then we’re going to transition right into Christmas. It’s all very faith-based, traditional Christmas music that I think folks will really enjoy.”
The 24th Annual Christmas Songs & Stories with John Berry tour will be held on Sunday, December 20 at 8 p.m.
