Elmore County, Ala. – The incident occurred at 11 p.m. Monday at a house along Cherokee Trail, according to Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin. A lady reported to police that one of her sons had shot the other.
When deputies arrived to the house, they heard someone remark, “My brother is attempting to murder me.” Franklin said that the two deputies entered a workshop on the property and discovered Darin Gray inside, armed with a pistol. Deputies tried to speak with Darin Gray, but he pointed a revolver at them and was shot.
Darin Gray was transferred to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to Franklin.
Gray’s brother, Cecil Gray, was discovered at a neighboring apartment with a gunshot wound to the leg. The reason for the shooting between the brothers remains unknown.
Franklin said that deputies were summoned to the property earlier in the day for another incident. Darin Gray’s family members told authorities that he was behaving strangely.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
